District of Innovation Plan

In 2015, the 84th session of the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1842 allowing districts to pursue the District of Innovation designation.

On January 14, 2019, the Van Vleck Independent School District’s Board of Trustees passed a resolution to initiate the process of designation as a District of Innovation in order to increase local control over District operations, and to support innovation and local initiatives to improve educational outcomes for the benefit of students and the community. Also on January 14, 2019, the VVISD Board of Trustees appointed a 19-member committee to begin research and discussion within our community and school district for a plan of innovation addressing areas that included Transfer Policy, Probationary Contracts, Certifications, School Calendar, and Minimum Attendance for Class Credit or Final Grade. The committee has met multiple times, shared the plan with the entire district staff, and allowed time and opportunity for input and comment. Upon the conclusion of these events, the DOI Committee adopted the VVISD District of Innovation Plan on January 24, 2019. A public hearing will be held on March 18, 2019, and upon its conclusion, a final vote of acceptance from the VVISD Board of Trustees.
