VVISD Moves To Clear Backpacks

As I am sure many of you are aware, Governor Abbott released his School and Firearm Safety Plan which addresses improvements and upgrades to school safety in the light of the recent school shooting at Santa Fe High School. His plan is a public document and can be seen by clicking the link…Governor Abbott’s Plan.

In light of Governor Abbott’s plan, Van Vleck ISD’s Board of Trustees and Administrative Team are constantly reviewing ways to increase safety protocols for all of our students and staff.  There will be changes to our facilities and procedures where we deem necessary. You may have already noticed some of these changes the days following the Santa Fe shooting. These changes will continue into the next school year. With increased safety protocols, we understand inconveniences will increase.

One specific change is as follows:

\r\n

All backpacks must be clear for the upcoming school year. This will allow everyone to see what is contained or carried in each backpack. We must be able to see through the clear backpack to improve our security. Students will be allowed one small non-clear pouch within their backpack to keep their hygiene products in.

\r\n

We are currently reviewing our facilities as well as our procedures. We will address and respond to security situations on our campuses as needed. These changes have not been finalized, so as soon as we finalize these changes we will share them with the parents and students prior to the start of school.

Van Vleck ISD takes the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously. We are receptive to Governor Abbott’s plan. We will continue our partnership with the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, Bay City Police Department, and our local constables’ offices in our efforts to improve safety and security for everyone.

Van Vleck ISD sincerely appreciates the support of our parents and students as we seek ways to improve safety and security for everyone.
