General Overview

Why is Van Vleck ISD accepting new out-of-district transfers?

In Texas, public school funding is based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Due to a recent slowdown in enrollment, VVISD has extra capacity across several grade levels. By strategically opening these available seats to out-of-district students, we can maximize state funding to support our programs and schools without increasing overall operating costs.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any Texas student who resides outside the Van Vleck ISD boundaries is eligible to apply. However, acceptance is not automatic—it is based on space availability, staffing limits, and the applicant's academic, attendance, and discipline records.

Which grade levels are open for transfers?

We are currently accepting applications for non-resident students in grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Grades for the 2026–2027 school year.

Note: VVISD is not accepting out-of-district transfer applications for Pre-Kindergarten (PK).

Is enrollment guaranteed once I apply?

No. Placement depends directly on available space and staffing capacity at your child's specific grade level, as well as meeting all transfer criteria.

Do transfer students have to reapply each year for enrollment? 

Yes. Transfer applications are reviewed annually for class size purposes. 

Applicant Qualification Criteria

To be considered for transfer, students must meet strict standards across attendance, behavior, and academic performance:

1. Attendance Record

• Absence Limit: Applicants must have fewer than 8 total absences (combining both excused and unexcused) during both the current and prior school years.

2. Disciplinary History

A student will be automatically disqualified if they have a criminal record or have received any of the following disciplinary assignments in the current or prior school year:

• In-School Suspension (ISS)
• Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)
• Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement (DAEP)
• Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Placement (JJAEP)

3. Academic Requirements

Students must have passed all courses on their most recent report card and from the previous school year. Specific academic documentation varies by grade level:

Logistics & Policies

Is school bus transportation provided for transfer students?

No. Van Vleck ISD does not provide transportation for out-of-district transfer students. Parents/guardians are entirely responsible for dropping off and picking up their children on time.

Can an approved transfer be revoked?

Yes. Transfers are a privilege and may be revoked at any point during the school year if:

• A parent consistently fails to provide timely transportation (e.g., frequent late drop-offs or tardy pick-ups).
• The student fails to maintain VVISD’s standards for attendance, behavior, or academic performance during the school year. 
• Campus Transfer committee meetings are held throughout the year, and the committee can revoke a transfer at any time in the school year.
